About the Lions - Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters. Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities. Johnsburg Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health, education and individual needs. The Johnsburg Lions were formed over 20 years ago here in our little Community of Johnsburg. For the first 12 years of their existence they met at the Johnsburg Tavern’s downstairs dining room. From those dining tables many ideas sprung to life. These ideas have allowed over 300 Johnsburgers to receive assistance with eye and hearing issues. These ideas have taken over 200 children Christmas shopping for themselves and their families via our Shop with a Cop program. These ideas have allowed us to assist other non-for-profit organizations attain their goals and sometimes just get started. Our first members "Charter Members" included Business owners, Attorneys, School officials, and Community leaders….there goal was to not only assist with the elimination of eye and hearing imparities, but though there efforts, make Johnsburg a better community as a whole. Not much has changed to this day…our members are still Business owners and Community leaders and our goal is still to make Johnsburg a better place to live…… These goals are only attainable by the support of our community and the dedication of individuals that have stepped up to make it happen…..The Johnsburg Lions. If you are interested in membership, Contact a member in the Johnsburg Lions club that you are considering membership and want to attend a meeting to learn more.
